Pre-season Lake Erie Spring BASS Fishing Report and Prospects 2025

Is is spring yet? After having a few years of milder winters, this year we paid for it up on Lake Erie. As of now, we still have around 86-87% of ice coverage on the entire lake, with very thick ice, still on places like Presque Isle Bay in certain places. This means, it will take some time for it to melt off. More time than it did last year, where we were enjoying open water fishing beginning in late January! It is good for the ice guys as they are getting a solid ice season and the reports are very good for perch, panfish,

Are Dinosaurs Really Extinct?

No, I’m not a scientist/paleontologist, but I do have a hypothesis – dinosaurs still exist, right in the good old US of A.  They exist in Florida.  I know what your first thought is, Alligators do give off that dinosaur vibe.  Although the Sunshine State is full of those prehistoric looking reptiles, I’m referring to one of the finned variety, the Florida bass.   Florida bass are a largemouth bass (prevalent in all the lower 48 states) however, they are different from much of the bass occurring natively in the northern climates.  The Florida bass is its own animal all together.  They have adapted to handle

My Thoughts on Forward Facing Sonar

Is this FFS sonar debate/trend still going on? Yeah, I figured it was time to finally chime in with my own two cents being on both sides of it. When I started tournament fishing a little over a decade ago, there was no forward facing sonar. I believe 2D was really it with side imaging and down imaging came shortly afterwards. I came into the sport at a time of serious transition. Being around it for some time now, I’d categorize a few general types of fisherman (obviously some crossover between them): Those who focus on fishing deep (er) and largely rely on their electronics.

Coming To An End…

After embarking on a journey across the country from February to October, the 2023 Bassmaster Opens EQ season is now in the books.  Nine events of planning, organizing, driving (a lot) and grinding out there on the land and water, have been quite the adventure.  Going into the 2023 Bassmaster Opens Elite Qualifiers (EQ) season, I knew we were going to be in for a challenge.  The field of around 180 really talented and accomplished anglers whose careers spanned from many decades to only just beginning, all embarked on that same journey in Eufaula, Alabama back in late February.   New things are always exciting.  Being

Eight Down, One to Go (2023 Bassmaster Opens EQ Season)

Eight down, one to go.  The Bassmaster EQ season, which spanned from February until October, is almost complete.  We just wrapped up a back to back event swing in Tennessee and Missouri and I arrived home late Sunday evening.  After a couple month hiatus this summer, we headed out to Watts Bar Lake in Kingston, Tennessee, to begin this end of season swing. Going into Watts Bar Lake there were a few things I knew about the lake: That I really didn’t know much at all, never having been on that body of water before. It was a TVA (Tennessee River Authority) lake which meant
